Vietnam’s 90-day E-Visas to be Applied Since 15th Aug 2023

Vietnam National Assembly approved on June 24 2023 a bill revising the regulations on the entry, exit, transit and residence of foreigners in Vietnam. Accordingly, the duration of an electronic visa (e-visa) will be increased to 90 days, with unlimited multiple entrances.

After being granted an e-visa, a foreigner can enter and exit an unlimited number of times within 90 days, without having to go through procedures for a new visa.


The Government is authorized to decide on the list of countries and territories whose  citizens would be entitled to e-visas; list of international border gates (in Vietnam) allowing foreigners to enter and exit by e-visa. Normally, Vietnam Government shall issue a new Decree to detail this.


The revised law also allows citizens of countries that are unilaterally exempted from visas by Vietnam to be granted temporary residence for 45 days (previous regulation is 15 days) and be considered for visa issuance and temporary residence extension according to regulations.


Currently, the e-visa issued by the Immigration Department (a subsidiary of the Ministry of Public Security) to foreigners through the electronic transaction system, for single entrance. Vietnam is issuing e-visas to citizens of 80 countries.


As announced in the Vietnam National Assembly’s portal, the Law shall take effect from August 15, 2023.
